So last week was pretty amazing. I met my second favorite author (my first being J.K. Rowling, NATCH) Jen Lancaster in Philly. It was simply fate that I had been rereading her amazing bodies of work such as
andI went to her blog and she was going to be in Philly the next day!
She did a reading from her latest, My Fair Lazy, and did a Q&A with us gaggle of women who worship her beautifully tanned and perfectly highlighted coif. I was the second person to balls up and ask a question and I was standing on the OUTside of the arena due to getting there later than expected due to a parking situation. BTW parking in Center City of effing ridonkulous x2. We paid fourteen dollars for what amounted to less that two and half hours of parkage. But I had asked “Since Bitter is the New Black is placed in a similar economical environment as we are in today how do you feel to be on the other side of the equation since you are so successful?” No, it didn’t come out as smoothly as all that. I stumbled on successful a million times. But Mrs Lancaster was gracious and totally understood what I was saying and it was awesome. Then she signed my book
and snapped THIS picture:
I want to be her. I want people to love me and go to my book signings and fumble on the word successful a million times while trying to ask me a question. I gotta keep working on my story. It’s getting better but I have a gap. It’s hard to fill it in when I am away from the inital inspiration. I need to channel my inner busted heart and translate it onto page. I met Jen Lancaster because of a ) my WIFEY BOO Toya.
Don’t mind the flick I was pretty drunk at the time and it shows. My boobs look great though.
She’s a newer friend but she has quickly entered my life and changed it for the better. I can tell her anything and she doesn’t judge me ONE bit. Then after Thursday I went to Atlantic City with my pals and gambled a bit, over paid for a drink at the rainforest cafe, and touched sand! It was the second time this year but the first up north. I love the beach and feeling like I am on the edge of the world and anything’s possible. THEN Friday night, my friend Shay’s birthday, we went to a club called The Deck in Essington PA. It was a blast. Sure it sucked that I was the biggest broad there but OPEN BAR for 25 bucks and I drank my heart away. I lost inhibitions, danced on stage, fell on stage, met some lovely people, and had a lot of fun. Sure my insecurities were mounting when I saw the skimpy broads in sheer white dresses but I did get it in despite that. If you wanna read my total emo post on it check out my post at yourbeautiful.org or click here I need to amp my confidence forrealsies though. It’s not any good that I have been missing the gym the past two weeks. I miss it and it’s taking a toll on my attitude and my belly. I want to feel better so hopefully, Thursday, I’ll be able to afford to pay for the gym again. Okay, I have to concentrate on the Flyers now. I am not a huge hockey fan but I am a huge anything Philly sports team fan. Gotta represent my hometown ya know!
I’ve been pretty content heavy with my posts (haha a pun sorta!) so I decided to do a lighter, frothier post listing some of my favorite films and why. My friend Brandi kinda did the same thing with her so I’m totally biting but my favorites are different from hers so it’s not totally the same. Since I work at a movie store my tastes vary immensely so here goes;
FIRST AND FOREMOST
I am so in love with Johnny Depp it’s not even funny. This was the first movie I remember him being in since it was made in 1989/1990 so I was three when it came out. I have watched this movie a billion and one times. When it came out on DVD I watched it every night to give me something to sleep to. Yes, I had a problem. It’s one of those timeless kinds of fairy tales plopped in modern suburbia. Edward Scissorhands is a gentle, loving, creature that is just misunderstood because of his hands. We can all relate, ya know?Johnny Depp embodies this character so you KNOW Edward. You come to love Edward.
I think everyone has seen this movie so I won’t get into the plot so much but the part where he’s getting cream on his face always mellows me out. I don’t know why it it does but that may be where I got my love of face moisturizer and creams.
Favorite Quote: Darn this stuff!
This movie is fascinating to me. I have also seen it a million times. I love the way it’s kind of a psychological thriller and a love story. I love the cinematography, the soundtrack, and the actors. This movie made me fall in love with Rose Byrne. Her character is made out to be kind of wacky but I GET her. I get it. I don’t want to spoil it if you have seen it but I think it’s definitely worth the watch. Favorite quote : “Love makes you do crazy things, insane things. Things in a million years you’d never see yourself do. But there you are doing them… can’t help it. ”
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Ah, you can call it cliche’ if you want to I don’t care. I fucking love this movie and I love Audrey Hepburn. I saw this movie when I was 12 years old and I was up later than my usual bed time. I turned on TCM and there it was. I LOVED the story even though I really didn’t understand it at the time. Paid escort, anyone? The clothes, the sets, the hair, and Tiffany itself. It was too much for a young girl to handle. I wanted glamour and I wanted to be Audrey. She is a socialite yet a spazz. Her apartment’s a mess. She has things everywhere and I felt that connection. Paul (Fred) is basically her male counterpart (although he gets paid for MORE than escorting hehe) he understands her and undoubtedly falls in love with her. This movie also has the best end of the movie kissing scenes ever I may add.
Favorite quote: “The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of.”
He loves me, He loves me not
Another Favorite Audrey. Audrey Tatou makes amazing movies. A Very Long Engagement, Amelie, Priceless, among others. To warn you it’s in French with English subtitles. I really can’t even explain the movie with out giving much away but it tells both sides of the story. It’s so cool. I love it. A must-see in my book. I haven’t seen the movie enough times to have a favorite quote plus it’s in French so.. lol.
Superbad Goddamnit i love this movie. It is the funniest fucking film. Funnier than Hangover and Step Brothers? In my opinion? YES! If you have not seen this hilarious movie what the shit is wrong with you? If you say this movie isn’t that funny to you I say McLovin!
Favorite Quotes: “Take off that vest you look like Aladdin.”
“Muhammed is the most commonly used name on Earth. Read a fucking book for once.”
“I gotta catch a glimpse of these warlocks. Let’s make a move. ”
“I’m sorry that I blocked your cock ”
“Well Jules, the funny thing about my back is that it’s located on my cock”
Damned good movie. Damned good movie. The first time I saw this movie, I’m not gonna lie, I was stoned outta my mind. I was like 18 and this movie was a total mind fuck. I watched it again, sober, and then I was like ohhhhhh time travel has rules, cool! Of course it’s one of those movies you have to see again and again to get all the things you missed. The soundtrack is super awesome. The director’s cut is the one everyone should own because it’s so different from the original. The sequel S. Darko was really, really, really well made and is a must-see for Donnie Darko fans everywhere.
Favorite quote“What’s a fuckass?”
Singin’ in the Rain
Love this movie. It’s one of the best movies of all time for a reason. It has awesome songs and is funny without trying too hard. It makes me feel all cozy when I see it.
Favorite Quote Don says to cosmo “Hey, call me a cab.” Cosmo replies “Okay, you’re a cab!”
This movie is Fucked up with a capital F. It is not for the light hearted to say the least. I don’t even want to tell you what it’s about except remember it’s rated R for a reason. It should be rated Nc 17 because of some really strong stuff but you know how it is. I’ll leave you with the tag line to the movie just to give you a feel for it; Two boys. One can’t remember. The other can’t forget. See it for yourself and keep an open mind.
I have some other honorable mentions for some of my favorite flicks here because I am tired of googling pictures so here goes;
Some Like it hot, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hangover, Step Brothers, Big, The Departed, Beauty and the Beast, The Italian Job (Mark Wahlberg version) Roman Holiday, Lost in Yonkers and a million more. I have a movie problem and I don’t care who knows it lol
